Contact Branch Manager?

Postby rehlylost Thu Oct 21, 2010 11:55 am

I am wondering if I should contact my branch manager in regards to my preference in duty locations following FBOLC. I finished OCS and I am waiting for my FBOLC class to start. I do not have orders or an RFO for a duty location after FBOLC. It is it a good idea to contact my branch manager?

Are you snowbirding? If so, talk to the other 2LTs. Every branch does it a little differently. Some branch managers are very receptive to helping you out, some want you to go through the cadre in your holding company, and some just don't care. Talk to your fellow LTs and see how Finance does things.

You can but keep these things in mind:

1. The Branch Manager may not have the list of slots to fill yet.
2. Where you want to go may not be on the list.
3. It is all based on the Branch Manager's discretion as to where you go.

This is purely speculation, but because the Finance officer corp is so tiny (like CBRN), your branch manager may be more easy going and willing to work with new 2LTs for branch assignments.

Formulate a list of the duty stations that you want. Once you know what you want, in what order, call your branch manager and ask if you can work with him or her to secure an assignment. The worst thing that will happen is that s/he will turn you away.
